Washi, Japan's handmade paper, is on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and here you make it yourself with techniques fourteen centuries old. Domestically grown mulberry is spread in a fine mesh frame with a rocking motion, and complete beginners are coached through it.

You use your own paper in the cover of a temple-stamp journal with a pressed-flower design, and take it home to use as a travel journal straight away.
