Koyasan, in northern Wakayama, is the holy site of esoteric Shingon Buddhism founded about twelve centuries ago by Kukai. You visit a special head temple of the sect for a tour and incense making.
You make incense with the traditional fragrance of the temple complex and enjoy a tasting of two varieties of tofu with five toppings, as part of a lunch of traditional fare.
