At a family forge in Ome, in the Tokyo outskirts and easy to reach from Shinjuku, a furnace master makes tamahagane, the traditional sword steel, and a blacksmith works it into blades with hammer and anvil.
You learn the techniques used to forge the swords of the samurai and craft a small katana of your own. It is finished with your choice of three handle styles and engraved with your name, then shipped to you after the experience.
