Jissoin is a temple in the Iwakura area of northern Kyoto with an 800-year history, long overseen by members of the imperial and regent families. After hours, the temple steward leads your group through its grounds.
You meditate in the usually closed shoin room, take matcha with seasonal sweets, see the dry rock garden and the landscape garden, try raking patterns in the gravel (weather permitting) and look at the fusuma-e sliding door paintings.
