Maki-e is the Japanese craft of drawing designs on finished lacquerware with fresh lacquer and dusting them with metallic powders such as gold or silver. Because wet lacquer irritates the skin, you work with a non-toxic alternative.
You choose a hand-lacquered piece to decorate, a confectionery bowl, a handheld mirror, a round tray or a rectangular box, and create a personalised item with refined maki-e powder.
